Brigadier General YD Ahmed, the Director-General of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), has called for a united effort to locate Yahaya Farouk, a corps member who recently went missing in Ikuru Town, Andoni Local Government Area of Rivers State.

During his visit to the community on Wednesday, General Ahmed urged residents, including youth and community elders, to collaborate with security agencies in the ongoing search for the missing corps member.

“The essence of my coming is to appeal for assistance in locating the corps member, who came for national service from another state,” Ahmed said. He also stressed the importance of host communities taking an active role in ensuring the safety and welfare of corps members serving in their areas.

Commitment to Security and Welfare

General Ahmed visited the site of the incident and reiterated the NYSC’s commitment to advocating for enhanced security measures to protect corps members nationwide.

“My administration will continue to advocate for the adequate security and welfare of corps members at all times,” he said. “It is also the responsibility of residents of corps members’ host communities to provide security and welfare packages for those serving in their domain.”

Community’s Response

During a meeting held as part of the visit, Etete Jerb Anthony, the Youth President, and Paul Friday, the Ward Secretary, informed the NYSC chief that the community had made significant efforts to locate Farouk. They reported that the corps member had gone missing while at a Chinese mining company operating in the area.

“We are fully committed to continuing the search and rescue operations,” Anthony said, while also emphasizing the community’s dedication to ensuring the safety of all corps members within their jurisdiction.

A Call for Action

The NYSC Director-General’s visit underscores the agency’s concern for the safety of its participants and its dedication to fostering collaboration between security agencies and host communities. General Ahmed urged all stakeholders to remain vigilant and proactive, emphasizing that the safety of corps members is a shared responsibility.

Efforts to locate Yahaya Farouk are ongoing, with both the NYSC and the local community determined to resolve the situation swiftly.
