Ologbondiyan Urges Focus on National Issues Over Personalities Amid ADC Momentum

Kola Ologbondiyan, a prominent figure in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has called on Nigerians to shift their political focus from personalities to pressing national issues, especially in light of recent developments surrounding the African Democratic Congress (ADC).

Speaking during an interview on Channels Television on Friday, Ologbondiyan, who is reportedly weighing a move to the ADC, emphasized that the public discourse should centre on the ideas and policy directions coming from the emerging coalition, rather than on the individuals involved.

“I think the issues, the conversations which have been raised by the ADC should be of interest to those who are in government and not attack on personalities,” he said. “We’ve done that over and over, where has it taken the nation to? It hasn’t taken us anywhere.”

Ologbondiyan, who previously served as the PDP’s National Publicity Secretary, insisted that for Nigeria’s democracy to progress, political engagement must be rooted in substance, not sentiment.

“If we don’t want to fail this democracy, if we do not want to continue to fail Nigerians, then we should look at issues in the conversation and not personalities,” he added.

While he stopped short of officially announcing a defection, his alignment with the ADC’s recent policy stances has fueled speculation about his political future. The ADC has in recent weeks positioned itself as a credible alternative to the traditional dominance of the PDP and the All Progressives Congress (APC), with calls for governance reform and inclusive leadership.

Ologbondiyan also pushed back against what he described as premature judgments and misconceptions about the ADC by the Nigerian public.

“When you sit in your house and you think you have the biggest farm, you might not get the advantage to see what the other person is doing because you’re going to judge them on account of what you have in your farm,” he said, using a metaphor to illustrate the dangers of closed-minded political assessments.

His comments come at a time of increasing realignments within the opposition space, as Nigeria inches closer to the 2027 general elections. Political observers say the ADC’s coalition-building efforts and reformist messaging could reshape the dynamics ahead of the polls.
