We’re not a revenue generating agency, FRSC spokesman, Bisi Kazeem clarifies



FRSC Issues Travel Advisory Over Colapsed section Of Lokoja-Kabba Highway

The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has disclosed that the agency is a service oriented agency of the Federal Government and not a revenue generation one contrary to reports making the rounds.

According to the FRSC, its core mandate is making the nation’s highways safe for motorists and other road users across the country.

The Corps Public Education Officer (CPEO) Assistant Corps Marshal (ACM) Bisi Kazeem, stated this in an interview with journalists in Abuja on Thursday.

Kazeem was reacting to reports, he described as fake news, making the rounds on the FRSC has increased prices for the acquisition of number plates and driver’s licence.

According to reports making the rounds, the FRSC had increased the price of number plates and driver’s license, thereby tagging it as a revenue generating agency.

The reports also stated that registration of New Blue Plate is now N55,000, registration of New Red Plate at N65,000 and registration of New Articulated Plate number at N100,000

It also put Change of Ownership with New Blue Plate Number at N70,000, change of Ownership with New RED Plate Number at N80, 000 and Change of Ownership with New Articulated Plate Number at N115,000.

Also, Transfer of existing Plate Number from One Vehicle to Another was put at N35,000, while eplacement of Loss Plate Number was put at N36,000.

For driver’s license, the reports said Flfresh issuance of Drivers license us N38,000 for five years, N33,000 for three years, while Renewal was put at N22,500 for five years and N18,000 for three years.

Kazeem, while noting that the noble mandate of the FRSC was to make the nation’s highways safe for motorists and other road users across the country, insisted that the Federal Road Safety Commission was not set up as a revenue generation agency but to ensure the protection of lives and property on the road.

According to him, the news circulating round that FRSC had increased the prices of number plates and driver’s license was not true.

He said: “The Price increase is from the Joint Tax Board (JTB) and not from FRSC. However, the approved price for articulated vehicle number plate is N30,000.

“Motor vehicle driver’s license price for three year is N10,000 while N15,000 is for five years. Standard private and commercial vehicle number place is N18,750.

“Implementation of the revised rates for vehicles number plates and driver’s license in Nigeria commences on Aug. 1 according to Joint Task Board, ” he said.

Kazeem also solicited the support and cooperation of journalists especially in publicising the activities of the corps, saying that the media needed to verify before reporting.

He also urged members of the public to note that only the Joint Tax Board (JTB) has the statutory powers to review the prices of the items in question, adding that it was the Board that approved the price reviewed.

He further appealed to the motoring public to continue to ensure their vehicles were properly registered as it enhances the security of the vehicles.

Reports shows that the last review on the prices of number plates and driver’s license was done in 2011.
