The United States has supplied the Nigerian Air Force with additional military equipment as part of ongoing bilateral efforts to strengthen Nigeria’s ability to confront terrorism and other security threats.

The United States Africa Command, AFRICOM, announced the delivery in a statement posted on X on Thursday.

According to the command, the equipment was transported to Nigeria aboard a US Air Force C-17 aircraft over the weekend under a foreign military sales agreement between Washington and Abuja.

AFRICOM said the latest delivery underscored the growing security partnership between both countries and was intended to enhance Nigeria’s counter-terrorism capabilities.

“PARTNERSHIP IN ACTION: A US Air Force C-17 delivers equipment to the Nigerian Air Force this weekend.

“The equipment is part of a foreign military sales agreement that furthers the US-Nigerian partnership and will aid in Nigeria’s efforts to counter terrorism in the region,” AFRICOM stated.

The delivery comes as Nigerian security forces continue military operations against terrorist groups and other armed threats in different parts of the country.

The latest assistance forms part of broader US-Nigeria defence cooperation, which has included military training, technical support and the provision of defence equipment to strengthen Nigeria’s security capabilities.

The United States has maintained that cooperation with Nigeria remains important to addressing terrorism and other transnational security challenges affecting the West African region.
