2027: PDP Backs Senator Olubiyi Fadeyi Ajagunla for Osun Central, Ends Accord Alliance

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has declared that Senator Olubiyi Fadeyi Ajagunla remains its preferred candidate for the Osun Central Senatorial District ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The party’s National Treasurer, Prince Diran Odeyemi, made the position known while appearing on Morning Spring, a television programme on Western Spring Television in Osogbo.
Odeyemi explained that the PDP had earlier deployed its political structure in support of Governor Ademola Adeleke during the August 15 governorship election, despite the governor contesting under the platform of the Accord Party.
He said the arrangement between the PDP and Accord was specifically tied to the governorship election and had now come to an end following the conclusion of the poll.
Addressing the PDP’s position ahead of the 2027 National Assembly elections, Odeyemi said the party had no agreement that would prevent it from backing Ajagunla in Osun Central.
He stated, “In the Osun Central Senatorial District, Senator Olubiyi Fadeyi Ajagunla is our Candidate and the PDP will Campaign and work with him.”
Odeyemi further clarified the status of the previous political arrangement, saying, “The arrangement we had with Accord in Osun has ended with Governor Adeleke’s election.”
The PDP National Treasurer was also asked about the possibility of facing Gani Olaoluwa, whom he described as a close friend, in the 2027 senatorial contest.
While acknowledging his personal relationship with Olaoluwa, Odeyemi stressed that his responsibility as a national officer of the PDP was to advance the interest of his party.
He said, “Gani Olaoluwa is my very good friend, I have nothing against him, but, this is a party Affairs”, adding, “I have been informed as the National Treasurer of the PDP to deliver for the party, so, I will work and campaign against Gani Olaoluwa, my Candidate in PDP is Senator Olubiyi Ajagunla.”
The comments effectively place the PDP behind Senator Ajagunla in the race for the Osun Central Senatorial District in 2027.
They also reaffirm the party’s position that its electoral understanding with Accord was limited to the August 15 governorship election and does not extend to the forthcoming National Assembly elections.
The development is expected to shape the political contest in Osun Central as parties and aspirants begin positioning themselves ahead of the 2027 general elections.
