Hon. Sanya Omirin, the representative for Ijesa South Federal Constituency, recently conducted an on-the-ground inspection of a road drainage project that he facilitated in Ilesa.

The inspection uncovered significant issues with the quality of the work, leading the lawmaker to demand immediate corrective action from the contractor involved.

During the inspection of the drainage works at Oke Omiru area in Ilesa, Omirin voiced his dissatisfaction with the project’s construction, particularly the drainage system. He pointed out that the work fell far below the expected standards, raising serious concerns about the structural integrity of the construction. “The work didn’t meet minimum standards, and the effectiveness of the drainage cannot be guaranteed,” Omirin stated, emphasizing the potential risks posed by subpar work.

Reacting swiftly to the findings, the lawmaker directed the supervising engineer to immediately inform the contractor that the current work was deemed unacceptable. “I am instructing that the entire drainage system be dismantled and reconstructed,” Omirin ordered, underscoring the need for the work to be redone to meet proper specifications.

In addition to the directive for reconstruction, Omirin issued a stern warning regarding payment for the project. “I will personally report to the agency and ensure payment is not done until everyone involved is satisfied about the job done,” he said, signaling his intention to hold all parties accountable for delivering quality work.

The inspection also highlighted troubling patterns of malpractice, as Omirin alluded to the possibility of corruption or negligence on the part of some contractors and civil servants. “The inspection has exposed the shady dealings of some contractors and the collaborations of some civil servants’ poor sense of judgement which makes scarce resources ineffective,” Omirin remarked, emphasizing the need for transparency and greater oversight in public projects.

Reaffirming his dedication to the well-being of his constituents, Omirin concluded by stressing his commitment to sustainable development in Ijesa South. “I remain focused on the long-term welfare of our people and will continue to ensure that projects in our area meet the highest standards of quality and integrity.”
