A devastating case of rape and impregnation has shaken the Olodo Community in Odeda Local Government Area, Ogun State, after a 20-year-old man, Akeem Sumonu, was arrested for allegedly violently attacking and raping a 16-year-old girl in October 2024.

According to the Ogun State Police Command, the suspect was apprehended on Tuesday by operatives stationed at the community’s security post. The police were informed by the survivor’s mother, Christiana, that Sumonu had allegedly raped her daughter and threatened her to keep the incident a secret.

“The victim hid the incident from her parents until the complainant noticed unusual signs on her body,” said Chief Superintendent Omolola Odutola, the state police spokesperson. “She then confided in her mother, revealing that the suspect had forcibly raped her, causing her to lose her virginity, and had threatened her not to tell anyone.”

After his arrest, Sumonu reportedly confessed to the crime, admitting that he had violently assaulted the teenager and threatened her into silence. The situation took a more severe turn when a medical report revealed that the survivor was eight weeks pregnant, with the pregnancy suspected to be a result of the crime.

“The suspect has been arrested and detained. Further investigation will take place once the case is transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department,” Odutola added.

This incident bears a disturbing resemblance to a similar case in March 2024, where a pastor named Adeleye Dada was accused of raping and impregnating the teenage daughter of one of his church members in the Gasline area of Ifo Local Government Area in the state.
