Gov Lawal Hails Security Forces After Major Recovery of Livestock, Arms from Bandits in Zamfara

Governor Dauda Lawal of Zamfara State has praised security operatives for what he described as a significant breakthrough in the ongoing battle against banditry, following the recovery of hundreds of rustled livestock, weapons and ammunition from criminal groups operating in the state.

The commendation came after operatives of the Violence Crime Response Unit (VCRU) of the Zamfara State Police Command carried out a successful operation in the Gambanda Forest area of Gummi Local Government Area, leading to the recovery of 329 cattle and 175 sheep allegedly stolen by bandits.

Governor Lawal described the development as a clear indication that renewed security efforts are beginning to yield positive results, expressing optimism that sustained collaboration among security agencies would further weaken criminal networks across the state.

Reacting to the operation, the governor applauded the courage and dedication of officers involved in the mission.

“I commend the effort of all the security operatives in Zamfara State, especially the Zamfara State Police Command, for its resilience, bravery and commitment in recovering 329 cattle, 175 sheep, weapons and ammunition from bandits.

“The police engaged and overpowered the bandits in Gambanda forest in Gummi local government area, which led to the recovery.

“This commendable action reflects their tireless work in the face of challenges posed by criminal elements and underscores the police’s role in protecting the livelihoods of the people of Zamfara State.

“The remarkable display of bravery and the successful recovery of livestock and weapons highlight the strong leadership of the Commissioner of Police, CP Ahmed Muhammad Bello. His guidance has been instrumental in improving public safety and combating banditry.

“My administration remains committed to providing support to all security agencies in their efforts to ensure safety and security for our people.”

The governor noted that the recovery operation not only deprived criminal elements of valuable resources but also brought relief to affected residents whose livelihoods depend heavily on livestock farming.

Banditry remains one of the most pressing security challenges confronting Zamfara and other parts of Nigeria’s North-West region, with thousands of residents displaced and many communities subjected to repeated attacks, kidnappings and cattle rustling over the years.

Authorities believe sustained intelligence-driven operations and stronger cooperation between communities and security agencies will be critical to consolidating recent gains and restoring lasting peace across the state.

The latest recovery is being viewed as one of the most notable successes recorded by security forces in recent weeks, reinforcing efforts to dismantle bandit networks and reclaim territories previously used as operational bases by criminal groups.
