Gombe NBA Denounces Looting During #EndBadGovernance Protest

The Nigerian Bar Association’s Gombe branch condemned the actions of some individuals who disrupted what was intended to be a peaceful #EndBadGovernance protest in the state on Sunday.
Reports indicate that these individuals terrorized business premises and looted their properties.
Benjamin Sati, Chairman of the Gombe NBA, expressed concern over the destruction, particularly noting that businesses near the Government House were not spared.
Sati stated, “The said bad eggs also wantonly destroyed government buildings meant for public use and looted valuables. These acts were not only barbaric but also uncivilized and condemnable.”
He further criticized the lack of action from security personnel, saying, “It is unfortunate to mention that those buildings affected shared the same neighborhood with the Government House roundabout that had the presence of heavily armed security personnel and no reported caution or arrest of the said bad eggs was made.”
Sati called on Governor Muhammadu Yahaya to establish a panel of inquiry to hold the perpetrators accountable and to compensate those who suffered losses.
“We, while sympathizing with the government and people of Gombe State for the said dastardly avoidable destruction, call on the governor of the state to initiate an inquiry into the criminal acts with the aim of bringing the perpetrators to justice and compensating the affected persons and/or businesses,” Sati added.
“May Gombe State and our country succeed under a more peaceful atmosphere,” he concluded.
