FUAHSE Emerges as Nigeria’s New Healthcare Education Powerhouse at Second Matriculation Ceremony

– Prof. John Emaimo unveils bold vision for innovation, discipline, research excellence and world-class healthcare manpower development

The Federal University of Allied Health Sciences, Enugu on Saturday recorded another historic milestone as it matriculated its second batch of students, with the Vice Chancellor, Prof. John Emaimo, declaring that the institution is strategically positioned to become Nigeria’s foremost centre for healthcare manpower development and innovation-driven education.

Delivering his address during the university’s Second Matriculation Ceremony held in Enugu, Prof. Emaimo described the event as more than a ceremonial admission exercise, noting that it represents the Federal Government’s deliberate investment in healthcare education, national development, and human capital advancement.

According to the Vice Chancellor, the establishment of FUAHSE by the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on March 14, 2024, was part of a broader national strategy aimed at addressing the shortage of skilled healthcare professionals and strengthening Nigeria’s healthcare architecture.

Prof. Emaimo revealed that within a remarkably short period, the university has evolved into a rapidly expanding centre of academic excellence, innovation, and professional development, currently running twenty-eight academic programmes across six faculties.

He stated that the institution’s philosophy is anchored on excellence, professionalism, research innovation, entrepreneurship, and community-oriented healthcare development, aligning with President Tinubu’s continental vision as African Union Champion for Human Resources for Health.

The Vice Chancellor further disclosed that the university has aggressively pursued infrastructural expansion, including the completion of a modern auditorium with over one thousand seating capacity, a state-of-the-art Library and ICT complex, administrative buildings, and additional classroom facilities designed to support digital learning and cutting-edge research.

Highlighting the university’s academic growth, Prof. Emaimo said FUAHSE successfully secured approvals from the National Universities Commission for multiple programmes spanning Nursing Sciences, Medical Laboratory Science, Radiography, Public Health, Artificial Intelligence, Biomedical Engineering, Physiotherapy, Biotechnology, Microbiology, and Software Engineering among others.

He noted that one of the institution’s most unique features is its dual-certification model, through which students graduate with both academic degrees and entrepreneurial certifications aimed at promoting self-reliance, innovation, and economic empowerment.

Prof. Emaimo also emphasized that the university maintains zero tolerance for cultism, examination malpractice, truancy, and all forms of indiscipline, stressing that ethical conduct, accountability, diligence, and professionalism remain non-negotiable values within the institution.

The Vice Chancellor encouraged the matriculating students to embrace academic excellence, intellectual curiosity, and discipline, assuring them that FUAHSE is committed to nurturing globally competitive healthcare professionals and future leaders in scientific innovation.

He commended the Federal Government, the Federal Ministries of Education and Health, members of staff, parents, and stakeholders for their unwavering support toward the rapid growth of the institution.

Reaffirming the university’s long-term vision, Prof. Emaimo declared that FUAHSE remains committed to producing graduates distinguished both in character and in learning while contributing significantly to national healthcare transformation and sustainable development.
