FCT Residents Criticize AEDC’s inefficiency, Threaten Protest

Residents of Jikwoyi Phase IV in the Federal Capital Territory voiced their anger and frustration on Monday over the Abuja Electricity Distribution Company’s failure to replace a faulty transformer that has left them without power for two weeks.
In a letter to the Managing Director of AEDC Zone 4, the chairman of the Landlords Association, Mr. Bolakale Akeem, accused the company of negligence and inadequate maintenance, despite the significant revenue they collect from the community.
“It is disheartening that while the infrastructure in Phase 4 was established through communal efforts, AEDC continues to collect substantial revenues from the residents without providing the necessary maintenance or upgrades,” Akeem stated.
The community is demanding the immediate replacement of the faulty transformer, old risers, aluminum conductors, and wooden poles. They have warned that if their demands are not met within a week, they will stage a protest at the AEDC office.
“We believe AEDC can address these issues within a week. We must stress that the residents are increasingly agitated and dissatisfied with AEDC’s lack of responsiveness. Should there be no action within one week of receiving this notice, we will have no choice but to occupy the AEDC office until our demands are met as a means of addressing the situation,” the community warned.
The residents have sent copies of their letter to various authorities, including the Nigeria Electricity Regulatory Commission, local police divisions, and community leaders, seeking urgent intervention to restore power.
