Cultist Violence Erupts Near UNIZIK School Gate, Six Killed in Brutal Attack

A devastating outbreak of cultist violence has left a trail of death and destruction near the Nnamdi Azikiwe University (UNIZIK) school gate in Awka, Anambra State.
On Thursday morning, suspected cultists stormed the area, unleashing a hail of bullets that claimed the lives of at least six innocent people.
Eyewitnesses describe the scene as chaotic and terrifying, with the gunmen, believed to be members of a rival cult group, targeting unsuspecting victims with ruthless precision.
“I was on my way to class when I heard the shots,” said a UNIZIK student who witnessed the carnage. “Over six persons were shot dead near Witness Garden, Ifite Amansea Road. The hoodlums invaded the area at about 9:30 am today and started shooting at some persons suspected to be members of a cult group.”
Another eyewitness, a lecturer at UNIZIK, described the horrific scene, saying, “I saw seven persons lying dead. I had to turn back and go home. It was like a war zone.”
The Anambra State Police Command has confirmed the incident, with spokesman SP Tochukwu Ikenga stating, “The Police responding team has taken over the scene of indiscriminate shooting today at Ifite, behind Unizik gate, Awka by suspected gunmen.”
Ikenga added that preliminary information suggests the attackers started shooting sporadically, killing four people on the spot, and that two more victims succumbed to their injuries later.
Some empty bullet shells have been recovered, and the police are currently conducting operations in the area to apprehend the perpetrators and prevent further violence.
The motive behind the attack is still unknown, but authorities suspect it may be linked to an ongoing cult rivalry.
