Akpabio’s Wife Takes Natasha Akpoti to Court Over Defamation Allegations

Ekaette Akpabio, the wife of Senate President Godswill Akpabio, has filed multiple lawsuits against Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, accusing her of defamation.

The lawsuits stem from Akpoti-Uduaghan’s allegations during a Friday interview on Arise TV, where she claimed that the Senate President had made sexual advances toward her at his office and residence in Akwa Ibom.

Ekaette Akpabio has firmly rejected the allegations, describing them as “lies” and stating that her husband is a disciplined individual. She has filed a fundamental rights suit at the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) High Court, seeking redress for what she described as “scandalous and salacious” comments.

According to the suit, Akpoti-Uduaghan’s accusations have caused Ekaette and her children “emotional and psychological abuse.” The court is being asked to issue a restraining order, preventing Akpoti-Uduaghan from making further “spiteful” statements that infringe on Ekaette’s fundamental human rights.

Ekaette is demanding N250 billion in damages, citing exemplary, punitive, aggravated, and general damages. She also seeks N1 billion in punitive and exemplary damages for the harm caused by the defamatory statements.

Additionally, she requests a perpetual injunction barring Akpoti-Uduaghan from making any further defamatory remarks against her family’s reputation.

The lawsuits mark a significant escalation in the dispute between the two senators, with Akpoti-Uduaghan also filing a N100.3 billion lawsuit against Godswill Akpabio, accusing him of defamation.
