Abandoned Newborn Baby Found Dead in Niger Village

A heartbreaking discovery was made in Tayi village of Minna, Niger, where a lifeless body of a suspected day-old baby was found in a farmland. The Police Command in Niger confirmed the incident and has commenced an investigation into the matter.
According to SP Waisu Abiodun, the Police Public Relations Officer in Niger, “On August 9, the GRA Police Division received information that a lifeless body of ‘about a day old child was found in a farmland in Tayi village, Minna’.” Abiodun stated that police operatives promptly visited the scene and invited welfare officials from Chanchaga Local Government Area, who brought in a medical practitioner to examine the baby. Unfortunately, the baby was confirmed dead.
The incident is currently under investigation, with the police working closely with the community to identify and apprehend the person responsible for abandoning the baby. A resident of the area, who prefers to remain anonymous, shared their thoughts on the matter, saying, “The person must have abandoned the baby while still alive, but due to severe exposure to cold, the baby died. This is the first time we are seeing this type of occurrence in our area.”
The tragic incident has raised concerns about the welfare and support available to new mothers, particularly those who may be facing stigma or difficulties. The police investigation is ongoing, and it is hoped that justice will be served for the abandoned baby.
