Zamfara, XEJet seal deal for Abuja-Gusau commercial flights

The Zamfara State Government has entered into an Air Route Development Partnership Agreement with XEJet Limited to commence scheduled commercial flights between Gusau International Airport and Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja.

The agreement, signed on Monday, is expected to improve air connectivity to Zamfara and support the movement of people and goods while creating opportunities for business, investment and tourism.

The development was disclosed in a statement issued by the Governor’s spokesperson, Sulaiman Bala Idris.

According to the statement, the signing ceremony was chaired by the Zamfara State Deputy Governor, Malam Mani Mummuni, while the Secretary to the State Government, Malam Abubakar Mohammed Nakwada, signed the agreement on behalf of the state government.

The statement said the partnership would introduce regular commercial air services linking Gusau with the nation’s capital.

“Zamfara State government has signed an Air Route Development Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with XEJet Limited for scheduled commercial flights connecting Abuja and Gusau.

“Under the agreement, XEJet will operate bi-weekly flights beginning next month.

“The new air route will enhance access to Zamfara and open greater opportunities for investors, businesses and visitors.”

Speaking at the ceremony, Deputy Governor Mummuni said the agreement formed part of the state government’s efforts to improve transportation infrastructure and strengthen connectivity.

He recalled that the Gusau International Airport was developed from the ground up and completed within two years.

“The Gusau International Airport was built entirely from scratch and completed within two years.”

According to him, the airport was conceived primarily to facilitate the movement of people and goods while supporting economic activities across the state.

“The main goal of constructing the airport is to make it easier and more efficient for people and goods to move, which should help boost the economy.”

The deputy governor said Governor Dauda Lawal had continued to engage international investors and development partners as part of efforts to attract investment into Zamfara.

“Governor Lawal has been actively seeking international investors and donor agencies, all of whom are willing to invest in Zamfara.”

He said the commencement of scheduled commercial flights would make it easier for potential investors to access the state and assess available opportunities.

“This milestone of initiating a commercial flight will draw potential investors. Improving the state’s accessibility is our top priority, as it will create a more welcoming environment for business growth and investment.”

The state government said the Abuja-Gusau route would complement its broader efforts to improve infrastructure and create an environment conducive to investment and economic development.

The flights are expected to commence next month, with XEJet designated to operate the service on a bi-weekly basis.
