NUJ Lagos Information Chapel Celebrates Retirees in Style

…As Comrade Adewale Akodu Donates Jerseys to Chapel Football Team
The Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Lagos Information Chapel, honoured its retirees at a Special Congress held July 1, 2026, at Agidingbi Primary School, Ikeja, capping the celebration with a novelty football match in tribute to retiring Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Information and Strategy, Mr. Olanrewaju Bajulaiye.
Former Chapel Chairman, Comrade Adewale Akodu, donated branded jerseys to the chapel’s football team, with Jersey Number One specially reserved for Bajulaiye. The jerseys were unveiled by Chapel Chairman, Comrade Adebowale Adeniji, who commended the retirees for their decades of service and urged them to rest well and stay active in their communities.
In his goodwill message, Bajulaiye said being celebrated while still active reflected the love and unity among chapel members. He described NUJ as the fairest professional union and urged members to remain dedicated, loyal, and united in supporting one another.
Gifts were presented to the celebrants: Mr. Olanrewaju Bajulaiye, Mr. Bamidele Balogun, Mrs. Funmilayo Adesanya, Mr. Fatai Bakare, Mr. Shina Nathaniel, Mr. Olagoke Folayan, Mr. Obafemi Craig, Mrs. Yinka Gbemilade, and Mrs. Adeola Olabisi.
The day closed with a novelty match between Team Bajulaiye and Team Omotoso, featuring the Honourable Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Mr. Gbenga Omotoso. After a goalless deadlock in regulation time, the match went to penalties, with Bajulaiye FC winning 4–2.
