According to a security source, the soldiers, who were conveying food to their colleagues on guard in the bush, were taken unawares by the bandits between Birane and Garin-Kada villages of the Zurmi Local Government Area.
It was reported that as soon as the soldiers arrived near the area where the bandits were hiding, they opened fire and killed four soldiers.

“The soldiers regrouped, attacked and killed the bandits in large numbers, forcing them to flee leaving some of their assault weapons,” the source said.
