Zamfara Security Drive Deepens as Lawal Hosts Defence Chief, Pledges Continued Support

Governor Dauda Lawal on Tuesday received the Chief of Defence Staff, General Olufemi Oluyede, at the Government House in Gusau, in a high-level engagement aimed at strengthening ongoing efforts to tackle insecurity in the state.

The visit underscored the growing collaboration between the Zamfara State Government and the Nigerian Armed Forces as both sides continue to confront persistent security challenges across the region.

During the meeting, the defence chief praised the state government’s unwavering backing of military operations, highlighting what he described as a productive and sustained partnership in the fight against insecurity. He noted that such cooperation has been instrumental in boosting troop morale and enhancing operational outcomes on the ground.

Governor Lawal, in his remarks, made it clear that security remains the central pillar of his administration’s agenda, stressing that no meaningful development can thrive in an atmosphere of instability.

He said security is not just one of many priorities, but the foundation upon which governance and progress must rest, noting that without peace, the dividends of democracy would remain out of reach for many citizens.

The governor also emphasised the need for deeper coordination between civil authorities and security agencies, pointing out that a unified approach is essential to dismantling criminal networks and restoring normalcy to affected communities.

Reaffirming his administration’s stance, Lawal assured the military leadership of continued logistical and institutional support, pledging that the state government would remain fully committed to empowering security forces in their mission to protect lives and property.

The meeting is seen as part of broader efforts to consolidate recent gains in security operations and chart a more strategic path toward long-term peace in Zamfara State.
