Jagunmolu Super Cup Set for Kickoff as Lagos Grassroots Football Drive Gains Royal Backing

Grassroots football development in Lagos is set for a major boost following the official approval granted for the Jagunmolu Super Cup, a new indigenous tournament designed to discover and nurture emerging talents across the state.
The initiative, spearheaded by Silversport Nigeria Limited under the leadership of Kolawole Oripinye, received royal endorsement after a visit to His Royal Majesty, Oba Gbolahan Akanbi Timson Jagunmolu III of Shomolu Bariga. The monarch’s backing is being seen as a significant milestone for the competition and a strong vote of confidence in its objectives.
Widely respected across Yorubaland, the traditional ruler’s support is expected to lend credibility and momentum to the tournament, which organisers say is focused on youth empowerment through sports.
The Jagunmolu Super Cup is being positioned as one of the first major indigenous football competitions of its kind in Lagos, with a strong emphasis on grassroots participation and talent discovery. Organisers say the tournament is aimed at creating a structured pathway for young footballers to develop their skills and gain exposure.
To facilitate participation, football clubs across Lagos have been invited to register for the competition. The state has been divided into five zones—Ikorodu, Ikeja, Epe, Badagry, and Lagos Island—to ensure smooth coordination and broad inclusion. Clubs are expected to register within their respective zones and provide full player details as part of the process.
Beyond competition, the organisers say the Super Cup will serve as a gateway to bigger opportunities. Outstanding players identified during the tournament will be selected to form a team that will represent Oyo State at the Oduduwa Football Tournament 2026, offering participants a chance to showcase their talent on a larger platform.
Silversport Nigeria Limited has also opened the door for partnerships and sponsorships, calling on corporate organisations, businesses, and individuals to support the initiative. The company noted that the tournament presents an opportunity for stakeholders to contribute to youth development while gaining brand visibility.
Interested clubs and participants can register via phone on 08072267960 or 07034805406, by email at Silversportnigerialimited@gmail.com, or through the official website at Silversport Nigeria Limited website.www.silversport.com.ng
With royal endorsement secured and preparations underway, organisers say the Jagunmolu Super Cup is poised to redefine grassroots football development in Lagos, creating new pathways for young talents and strengthening the future of the sport in Nigeria.
