Osun PDP Professionals Call for Urgent Action from Founding Fathers to Revitalize Party Leadership

A pressure group within the Osun State People’s Democratic Party, known as Professionals in PDP, has issued a clarion call to the party’s founding fathers, urging them to intervene and prevent further decline within the party’s ranks.

In a detailed statement signed by the group’s Chairman, Sam Segun-Progress, and distributed to journalists in Osogbo on Friday, the group raised serious concerns regarding the growing influence of the FCT Minister and certain loyal members of the party’s working committee, which they believe is detrimental to the party’s overall growth and integrity.

“The shameful activities of the acting National Chairman and the National Secretary have continued to portray the party as a mere tool in the hands of the FCT Minister,” the statement asserts. This sentiment reflects a growing frustration among party members who feel that leadership decisions are being made to serve external interests rather than the party’s foundational principles.

The group criticized the ongoing cycle of suspensions and counter-suspensions within the party, describing it as a clear indication that the National Secretariat has lost its ability to lead effectively. “The spate of suspension and counter-suspension has shown that the National Secretariat has lost its honour to continue to lead the party,” they lamented, suggesting that such turmoil undermines the party’s credibility.

Additionally, the group questioned the reasoning behind the support the Chairman and National Secretary have extended to the FCT Minister over the Governor of Rivers State. “Why is the Chairman and National Secretary against the Governor of Rivers State? Why has Damagum not signed any meaningful statement against the economic situation of the country?” they asked, highlighting a perceived lack of accountability from the leadership regarding pressing national issues.

Segun-Progress further challenged the current leadership’s approach to the ruling party, asking pointedly, “We must ask the National Chairman why he is treating the ruling party with kid gloves. Why were they in a hurry to suspend other members of the working committee? Can it be safe to say they want to strangulate the party to favour the ruling party?”

In light of these concerns, the group called on the founding fathers to take immediate and decisive action, advocating for the resignation of the acting Chairman and National Secretary, and calling for a complete overhaul of the current National Working Committee. “If the founding fathers gloss over the recent charade of suspension and counter-suspension, then we can all kiss our party goodbye,” they warned, emphasizing the urgency of their appeal.

“It is time to call a spade a spade by kicking out all agents of the ruling party from our beloved party,” the statement concluded, underlining the group’s commitment to restoring integrity and purpose within the PDP.
