2027: Pro-Kwankwaso Group Pushes Obi–Kwankwaso Alliance as Alternative to APC

A political pressure group, the Kwankwaso Support Group 2027, has called for a joint presidential ticket between former Anambra State Governor Peter Obi and former Kano State Governor, Senator Rabi’u Kwankwaso, ahead of the 2027 general election.

The group made the proposal on Friday in Kano, where its leader, Abba Gwale, urged Nigerians to rally behind what he described as a strategic alliance capable of rescuing the country from deepening socio-economic and security challenges.

“As Kwankwaso supporters and loyalists, we have proposed and thrown our weight behind the joint presidential ticket, especially with Peter Obi, in any of the political parties. The current political trajectory has shown where the tide is shifting,” Gwale said.

He argued that a combined ticket would offer Nigerians a credible alternative to the ruling party, stressing that widespread frustration with insecurity and economic hardship had created an opening for a new political direction.

“If the duo gets a mandate in the upcoming election, Nigeria will be a better place. For real, we’re tired of insecurity, hunger, and starvation,” he added.

Gwale explained that the proposed alliance was designed to fuse Obi’s influence in the South with Kwankwaso’s strong grassroots following in the North, creating what he described as a formidable national coalition.

“We want a political alliance to bring together Obi’s strong support base in the South and Kwankwaso’s formidable support in the North, creating a powerful coalition that could potentially shake up the political landscape. With this partnership, the duo is poised to give the ruling party a run for their money,” he said.

According to him, the driving force behind the proposed ticket is a shared resolve to unseat the All Progressives Congress (APC) and pursue policies that prioritise ordinary Nigerians.

“At the heart of this alliance is a shared ambition to wrestle power from the ruling APC and bring about meaningful change to Nigeria. Both Obi and Kwankwaso have consistently emphasised their commitment to assisting the common man in Nigeria, and their partnership is seen as a key step towards achieving this goal,” Gwale said.

The group leader, who is from the same constituency as Kano State Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, said growing public dissatisfaction with the current administration was boosting the appeal of the proposed alliance.

“As 2027 approaches, all eyes are on the Obi-Kwankwaso alliance to see how they will capitalise on this momentum and translate it into votes. One thing is certain — the duo is determined to shake things up and bring about a new era of politics in Nigeria,” he added.

Reacting to reports that Kwankwaso had allegedly demanded extensive concessions from the ruling APC as a condition for joining the party, Gwale dismissed such claims as unreasonable.

He said that if any such demands were being portrayed that way, they should be regarded as excessive, considering Kwankwaso’s political stature and national following.

According to him, the former Kano governor has only articulated demands aimed at protecting the interests of his supporters and party members across the 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory.

“Supporters of Kwankwaso cut across every divide, especially among ordinary Nigerians who are living from hand to mouth,” Gwale added.
