Top Edo Campaign Strategist Quits PDP Over Party’s Direction

Matthew Iduoriyekemwen, the Director-General of the Asue/Ogie Campaign Council, has announced his resignation from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), citing disillusionment with the party’s current trajectory both in Edo State and at the national level.

In a resignation letter dated July 17, 2025, and addressed to Andrew Esemuede, Chairman of PDP Ward 5 in Ikpoba-Okha Local Government Area, Iduoriyekemwen expressed regret over his decision but said it was necessary given recent developments.

“I am writing to formally resign my membership of the Peoples Democratic Party, Ward 5, Ikpoba-Okha Local Government Area, Edo State,” he began in the letter.

The veteran politician and former lawmaker reflected on his long-standing association with the PDP, acknowledging the party’s impact on his political journey and personal growth.

“This is a painstaking decision for me, as the PDP has played a vital role in my political journey and personal development. For this, I remain deeply grateful and will always cherish the platform the party provided me,” he said.

However, Iduoriyekemwen explained that he could no longer reconcile his beliefs with the current state of the party, stating that its founding ideals had been compromised.

“Recent developments within the party—both at the state and national levels—have made it difficult for me to remain a member,” he wrote.

“The values and principles that once defined the PDP, as laid down by our founding fathers, appear to have been eroded. What we see today no longer aligns with the vision they had for a truly democratic, inclusive, and people-centred political party.”

He emphasised that his resignation was not made out of emotion but was a considered decision shaped by introspection and a desire to remain true to his principles.

“This is not a decision made out of anger or haste, but one rooted in deep reflection and a sincere desire to preserve my personal values and integrity,” Iduoriyekemwen noted.

He added that he plans to redirect his focus toward personal and professional commitments outside the political space.

“In view of this, I have decided to resign my membership of the party to enable me to concentrate fully on my family and business engagements.”

As he parted ways with the PDP, Iduoriyekemwen offered appreciation to his local party leaders and members for their long-standing support.

“I sincerely thank the party leadership and all members of Ward 5, Ikpoba-Okha LGA, for their love and support over the years. I wish the PDP well in its future endeavours.”

His departure marks a significant development in the PDP’s internal dynamics in Edo State, coming just months before the governorship election in which Asue Ighodalo is a leading candidate.
