Political Earthquake in Zamfara as Governor Lawal Dumps PDP for APC

Zamfara State has witnessed a dramatic political realignment as Governor Dr. Dauda Lawal officially announced his defection from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), a move that could significantly reshape the political landscape of the state ahead of the 2026 political cycle.

The announcement followed weeks of speculation and intense consultations within the state’s political circles. Sources close to the development indicated that the governor’s decision came after extensive consultations with political leaders, traditional elders and grassroots stakeholders across all fourteen local government areas of Zamfara State. Many of the participants in those discussions reportedly expressed concerns about the ongoing internal tensions within the PDP and the potential impact on governance and development.
