Omoyele Sowore, the leader of the #RevolutionNow Movement, was briefly detained by the Nigerian Immigration Service at Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos on Sunday upon his return to Nigeria. This detainment occurred on the same day that supporters from the Take It Back Movement and other activists had assembled at the airport to welcome him.

Sowore, who had been in the United States with his family, arrived in Lagos on a flight from Washington Dulles International Airport, which departed at 6:14 AM EDT and landed at approximately 9:43 AM WAT.

In a telephone conversation with Vanguard, Sowore revealed that he was held by the Nigerian Immigration Service and had his passport confiscated. He mentioned that no explanation was provided for his detention, and officials indicated they were awaiting instructions from higher authorities in Abuja.

Sowore later announced his release on X, stating, “I have just been released by the Nigerian Immigration after a brief detention and my passport released back to me. #RevolutionNow.”
