Manchester City’s Pep Guardiola loses mother to COVID-19

Manchester City manager, Pep Guardiola has lost his mother to the dreaded COVID-19 disease currently ravaging the globe.

The English club made the announcement on Monday, declaring that their Spanish head coach has lost his elderly mother to COVID-19.

Manchester City, in a statement on twitter disclosed that Dolors Sala died in Barcelona on Monday at the age of 82 after contracting dreaded virus.

The statement read: “The Manchester City family are devastated to report the death today of Pep’s mother Dolors Sala Carrio in Manresa, Barcelona after contracting coronavirus. She was 82 years old.

“Everyone associated with the club sends their most heartfelt sympathy at this most distressing time to Pep, his family and all their friends.”

A lot of tributes have begun to pour in with City’s local rivals, Manchester United making a heartfelt post of their own.

United wrote on Twitter: “Everyone at Manchester United is saddened to hear this terrible news. We send our heartfelt condolences to Pep and his family.”

Guardiola’s ex – club, Barcelona, also posted a tribute on their twitter page.

It read: “We at FC Barcelona are deeply saddened by the loss of Dolors Sala during this difficult time, and we would like to express our most heartfelt condolences, especially to Pep Guardiola, his family, and his friends. Rest in Peace”

Spain and Italy have been among the worst hit countries by the coronavirus pandemic in Europe, with over 135,032 cases and 13,055 deaths recorded so far in Spain.

The 49-year old Pep Guardiola recently made a donation of €1 million to Angel Soler Daniel Foundation and Medical College of Barcelona to help in the fight against coronavirus.

Many countries across the globe are currently in a state of lockdown due to the coronavirus outbreak, with it not yet known when it will be safe for restrictions to be lifted and normal life to resume.
