KEDCO Denies Defying Minister’s Directives on Customer Disconnections

The Kano Electricity Distribution Company (KEDCO) has refuted claims that it defied the Minister of Power’s directives on customer disconnections.

In a statement issued by Sani Sani, Head of Corporate Communications, KEDCO clarified that the company has not disobeyed any directives from the Minister.

According to the statement, KEDCO’s attention was drawn to a publication which suggested that the company had defied the Minister of Power’s directives on customer disconnections. However, Sani explained that the company was not in defiance of the minister’s directive regarding billing for the outage period.

“The electricity bills currently being collected are for September’s consumption, which were distributed in October. Therefore, customers who have not paid these bills are being disconnected,” Sani said. He further clarified that the Minister of Power had stated that customers would not be billed for the outage period from October 21 to October 30, and KEDCO would ensure that customers are not billed for this period.

Sani assured KEDCO’s customers that the company is committed to complying with all regulations and orders, particularly in ensuring accurate and fair billing. He also urged customers to settle their bills on time for the benefit of KEDCO and the power sector as a whole.

In a separate development, Future Energies Africa has taken over Kano DisCo. However, it is unclear how this development will affect KEDCO’s operations and customers.
