APC aiming to Undermine Democracy, Destabilize Nigeria, Secondus Warns

Prince Uche Secondus, former National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, has raised alarm over the potential for the 2027 elections to be undermined, accusing the All Progressives Congress (APC) of destroying democracy in Nigeria. He asserts that the APC is deliberately misgoverning the country with the intention of grounding it.
In a statement issued on Tuesday by his Media Adviser, Ike Abonyi, Secondus responded to the recent governorship election in Edo State, highlighting serious concerns about the ruling party’s actions. He emphasized that “all indications suggest that the ruling party is on a mission to destroy democracy in Nigeria,” pointing to what he described as “electoral fraud, conducted with no regard for the rule of law or respect for voters.”
The statement noted, “From the results of all the off-cycle elections conducted in Imo, Kogi, and Edo States, the Mahmoud Yakubu-led Independent National Electoral Commission has shown no remorse for the disgraceful conduct of the 2023 election, which threw Nigeria under the bus.”
Secondus further criticized APC National Chairman Abdullahi Ganduje’s assertion that the “Edo template” would be applied to upcoming elections in Ondo and Anambra States, stating, “it is clear that 2027 may not even happen, as the ruling party’s agenda is to create a one-party state by silencing the opposition.”
He highlighted the importance of diverse voices in democracy, asserting, “The beauty of democracy lies in opposing voices that check the ruling party, but the APC is set to ruin Nigeria with their misrule and won’t tolerate dissenting views.”
Secondus warned that “Nigeria’s democracy is teetering on the edge because of election rigging,” cautioning that if the outcomes of the Edo election are upheld, future elections in Nigeria could face severe challenges. He condemned the “blatant” manipulation of the Edo election, which included the harassment and arrest of opposition leaders and the compromise of key electoral players, stating, “The world is watching the disgrace we bring to this beautiful system of government, which other nations use to stabilize and develop their countries.”
