Zamfara Governor Praises Military After Major Operations Against Bandits, Terrorists

Governor Dauda Lawal of Zamfara State has applauded troops of the Joint Task Force (North West) Operation Fansan Yamma for recording major victories in the ongoing fight against banditry and terrorism across the state.
The governor commended the military following a series of coordinated offensives carried out in parts of the state, particularly in Kaura Namoda and Birnin Magaji Local Government Areas, where troops launched a large-scale operation in the early hours of Thursday, May 7, 2026.
During the operation, security forces successfully neutralised three suspected gang leaders and recovered a large cache of weapons and ammunition. Items recovered included an AK-47 rifle, a machine gun, a locally made pistol, seven rifle magazines, and 571 rounds of ammunition.
Governor Lawal described the intensified military campaign as a critical and timely intervention in the state’s battle against armed criminal groups, especially after another successful operation conducted on May 10, 2026.
According to the governor, the latest mission disrupted a gathering of notorious terrorist commanders in Tumfa Village, located in Shinkafi Local Government Area, where intelligence reports indicated that armed groups had assembled to coordinate fresh attacks on communities in Zamfara.
Acting on the intelligence, the Air Component of the operation carried out a precision airstrike on the identified hideout, destroying the structure being used as a meeting point by the terrorists and reportedly neutralising several commanders.
The governor reiterated his administration’s commitment to supporting military operations and other security agencies working to restore peace and stability across the state.
He assured that the Zamfara State Government would continue to provide the necessary logistics and cooperation needed to strengthen ongoing security operations against bandits and terrorist groups operating within the region.
