Osun CVR Violence: Fadahunsi Blasts Politicians for “Primitive” Tactics, Demands Security Crackdown

Senator Francis Adenigba Fadahunsi has condemned the rising wave of violence disrupting the ongoing Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) in Osun State, accusing desperate politicians of endangering democracy through “barbaric” tactics.

Fadahunsi, who represents Osun East in the Senate, issued the warning in Osogbo on Friday through a statement signed by his Special Adviser on Media, Sam Segun-Progress. His comments followed reported attacks on residents and journalists at registration centres in Ilesa and Ikirun earlier in the week.

He stressed that such aggression, allegedly sponsored by political actors, must be “arrested and nipped in the bud immediately” to prevent a total breakdown of the registration process.

The lawmaker did not mince words in his condemnation: “It is barbaric and totally uncalled for. Why should anyone encourage violence during voters’ registration? When we should be encouraging more people to come out and register, some people are using hoodlums to attack innocent residents and cause chaos.”

Fadahunsi demanded a thorough probe of the incidents, questioning why violence should become a weapon in what ought to be a civic exercise. He described the attacks as “needless and primitive,” insisting that the CVR exercise is a democratic duty every citizen should approach freely and without fear.

The senator further urged stakeholders to take a firm stand against those behind the violence: “I urge stakeholders to rise up and speak against this evil and those behind it. Beyond that, we should all work hard to stop the perpetrators from disrupting our collective gains as a state in the Continuous Voter’s Registration.”

While urging the youth, particularly in Ijesaland, to resist being used as political thugs, Fadahunsi also tasked security agencies to “double their efforts” and guarantee a safe environment for registrants.

According to him, only decisive action against sponsors and perpetrators of violence will safeguard the credibility of the CVR and prevent Osun from sliding into chaos.
