Fidelity Bank Announces Key Leadership Appointments, Board Changes

Fidelity Bank Plc, a top-tier financial institution in Nigeria, has unveiled strategic board appointments as part of its ongoing efforts to sustain its robust growth and performance. The new appointments, approved by the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), became effective on January 14, 2025.

The bank announced the addition of Alhaji Abdullahi Sarki Mohammed as an Independent Non-Executive Director, Ms. Obiaku Augusta Okam as a Non-Executive Director, and Mr. Sufiyanu Ibrahim Garba as an Executive Director.

A Wealth of Experience

Alhaji Mohammed joins the board with over 36 years of experience spanning financial services, public administration, and human resources development. His career includes notable leadership roles at First Bank of Nigeria Plc and Polaris Bank Limited. His expertise in banking, public service, and business advisory positions him as a valuable asset to Fidelity Bank’s leadership team.

Ms. Okam, the Managing Director/CEO of Skycurve Nigeria Limited, brings over 30 years of experience across banking, financial services, real estate, and retail sectors. Her professional journey includes leadership roles at Zenith Bank Plc and Citibank (Nigeria International Bank Limited), further enriching the bank’s strategic capabilities.

Mr. Garba offers over three decades of multifunctional and cross-border experience gained in leading financial institutions in Nigeria and the United Kingdom. His extensive career includes executive roles at Access Bank Plc, Union Bank of Nigeria Plc, and Keystone Bank Limited, spanning banking, financial services, public service, and general management.

Board Chairman’s Remarks

Commenting on the appointments, Mustafa Chike-Obi, Chairman of Fidelity Bank Plc, said:

Honoring Retiring Directors

In a separate filing on January 16, 2025, Fidelity Bank announced the retirement of Alhaji Isa Mohammed Inuwa, an Independent Non-Executive Director, and Mr. Chidi Agbapu, a Non-Executive Director. Their retirement follows the completion of their tenures in line with the bank’s policies.

The bank expressed its gratitude for their invaluable contributions, stating, “We deeply appreciate their service and wish them the very best in their future endeavors.”
