For Declaring Party Dead, Kogi PDP Demands Melaye’s Suspension

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Kogi State has called for the immediate suspension of a former Kogi West senator, Dino Melaye, following his recent declaration that the party was “dead”.
In a statement issued on Sunday, the PDP elders in the state led by Alhaji Ibrahim Dansofo asked the party’s executive committee in the state to initiate suspension proceedings against Melaye, citing the need to restore the party’s integrity and focus on viable leadership.
They condemned Melaye’s outburst, saying his political ambitions have “crumbled” and he has become a “burden” to the party.
“Melaye’s political ambitions have crumbled to the point where he can no longer secure even a local councilor position.
“Senator Melaye has become a burden to the party. His accusations against the current leadership are hypocritical, as he himself was granted a governorship ticket despite the party’s awareness of his inability to win even a primary election,” the statement read.
The Kogi PDP has blamed Melaye for the party’s current struggles, claiming that his nomination was a significant misstep that led to the party’s present predicament.
The party has called on former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and Governor Ifeanyi Okowa to reevaluate their support for Melaye, urging them to distance themselves from someone they described as a “bondage” and a “big-time liability” for the party.
The move is seen as an attempt to discipline Melaye and restore order within the party, ahead of future elections. The suspension proceedings are expected to commence shortly, pending a formal investigation into Melaye’s actions.
