2027: I Know Atiku, Obi Will Come After Me If Tinubu Loses — Wike

Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has said he expects to become one of the first political targets of the opposition if President Bola Tinubu fails to retain power in the 2027 presidential election.
Wike, who has remained outspoken in his support for President Tinubu’s re-election, said his political position has made him fully aware of the consequences he could face should either former Vice President Atiku Abubakar or Peter Obi emerge victorious in 2027.
The FCT Minister spoke during a media chat in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, on Wednesday, insisting that he had no regrets about his decision to openly support the President.
According to him, “I will be the first politician that I think they will come after. I will be the first politician. I know they will come for my head,” he said.
Despite acknowledging the political risks associated with his position, Wike said he remained undeterred and would continue to work towards Tinubu’s victory, irrespective of the personal consequences.
The former Rivers State governor said his current political focus was completely centred on ensuring the President secures another term in office.
“Each day I sleep, I am thinking about the president’s reelection. When I am eating, I think about the president’s reelection. Everything I am doing now is about the president’s reelection,” he stated.
Wike also dismissed criticisms and attacks directed at him over his support for Tinubu, saying he was not disturbed by the names and accusations being levelled against him by political opponents.
He argued that few politicians in the country had endured the level of criticism he had received because of their political convictions.
“I don’t see where anybody in this country today has been called names the way my name has been. I am not bothered about people who say their [own] thing. My business is, like I said, I am going to support Mr President,” he declared.
Wike’s remarks further underline his determination to remain a key supporter of President Tinubu’s re-election bid as political activities and alignments continue to gather momentum ahead of the 2027 general election.
