Tinubu, First Lady Lead Guests at Lagos Premiere of MKO Abiola Documentary
President Bola Tinubu and First Lady Oluremi Tinubu were among the dignitaries who attended the national premiere of MKO, a feature-length documentary chronicling the life, political journey and enduring legacy of late businessman, publisher and politician, Chief Moshood Kashimawo Olawale Abiola.
The premiere took place on Thursday, October 1, at the Wole Soyinka Centre for Culture and Creative Arts in Iganmu, Lagos, as part of activities marking Nigeria’s 66th Independence Day.
President Tinubu and the First Lady arrived at the venue amid a ceremonial atmosphere, with a band performing the national anthem as guests stood to honour the national occasion.
A video of their arrival was shared by the President’s Special Assistant on Social Media, Dada Olusegun.
Dada said, “President Bola Tinubu and First Lady Oluremi Tinubu have arrived at the Wole Soyinka Centre for Culture and Creative Arts in Iganmu, Lagos, for the national premiere of ‘MKO’, a feature-length documentary on the life and political legacy of late businessman, publisher and politician, Chief Moshood Kashimawo Olawale Abiola.”
The documentary revisits Abiola’s political career and his place in Nigeria’s democratic history, particularly his role in the events surrounding the annulment of the June 12, 1993 presidential election.
Directed by Ose Oyamendan, MKO draws on archival materials and accounts linked to Abiola and the wider June 12 struggle to examine the events that shaped his political legacy.
The Lagos premiere comes after the documentary was screened internationally at Sheffield DocFest in the United Kingdom, marking its Nigerian debut before an audience that included the President and First Lady.
