Silversport Unveils Sunday Igboho Super Cup to Boost Grassroots Football in Oyo
A new chapter in grassroots football development is set to unfold in Oyo State and across Yorubaland following the official launch of the Sunday Igboho Super Cup by Silversport Nigeria Limited.
The tournament, described as a landmark initiative, is aimed at discovering and nurturing young football talents while creating structured opportunities for their growth and exposure.
The project comes after a strategic engagement with Yoruba activist Sunday Adeyemo Igboho, who has endorsed and thrown his weight behind the competition. His involvement is expected to lend cultural significance and grassroots acceptance to the initiative.
A representative of Silversport Nigeria Limited, speaking at the unveiling, said the competition is more than just a football tournament. “This is not just about football; it is about creating a future for young talents, giving them a platform to be seen, and helping them realise their full potential,” the representative said.
Designed as a large-scale development programme, the Sunday Igboho Super Cup will cover the entire Oyo State, which has been strategically divided into five football zones — Ibadan, Ogbomosho, Oyo, Oke-Ogun, and Ibarapa — to ensure inclusivity and smooth coordination.
Clubs, academies, and grassroots teams across these zones are expected to register and compete within their regions, with organisers promising a well-structured and competitive tournament.
Highlighting the broader vision behind the initiative, another official noted that the competition also serves as a gateway to bigger opportunities. “The Super Cup is not an end in itself; it is a pathway. Exceptional players will be selected to represent Oyo State at the Oduduwa Football Tournament, where they will compete with the best talents from across the South-West,” he said.
The Oduduwa Football Tournament is widely regarded as a premier regional championship, and participation offers young players exposure to scouts and professional opportunities.
Organisers have also called on corporate organisations to support the initiative through sponsorship and partnerships, emphasising the role of private sector collaboration in sustaining grassroots sports.
“We are inviting corporate organisations, both big and small, to partner with us. This initiative offers not only brand visibility but also a chance to contribute meaningfully to youth development and community growth,” the official added.
Young footballers and stakeholders across Oyo State have been urged to seize the opportunity, as registration for the competition has officially opened.
“This is a golden opportunity for young talents to showcase their abilities and take a step closer to professional football. We encourage all interested participants to register and be part of this transformative journey,” the organisers said.
Silversport Nigeria Limited reaffirmed its commitment to grassroots football and youth empowerment, noting that the Super Cup aligns with its broader mission to build sustainable platforms that connect aspiring athletes with real opportunities for advancement.
