Senator Fadeyi Rolls Out ₦20m Relief for Osogbo Storm Victims, Seeks Federal Backup

Senator Olubiyi Fadeyi, who represents Osun Central Senatorial District and chairs the Senate Committee on Environment, has donated ₦20 million to victims of the recent rainstorm that wreaked havoc across Osogbo and surrounding communities.

The intervention, announced in a statement by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Bashorun Adekanola Desmond, follows the senator’s earlier promise to support those affected by the disaster. The funds are to be distributed to victims at the Ataoja’s Palace Hall, targeting households and businesses impacted by the destruction.

Properties damaged by the storm include homes, shops, food canteens, markets, mechanics’ workshops, police stations, schools, and hospitals, leaving many residents displaced and struggling to recover.

Expressing sympathy with affected communities, Fadeyi described the scale of destruction as alarming and heartbreaking.

“This is a painful moment for our people. Many families have lost their homes and livelihoods overnight, and it is our duty to stand by them and provide immediate support,” he said.

He added that the donation was a demonstration of solidarity and compassion for constituents facing hardship.

“This ₦20 million support is not just financial assistance—it is a message that they are not alone. We share in their pain and will continue to stand with them until normalcy is restored,” the senator stated.

Fadeyi disclosed that he had already engaged the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) to mobilise additional relief materials and support from the Federal Government.

“I have reached out to NEMA to ensure that federal intervention complements what we are doing at the local level. Our people deserve swift and coordinated assistance,” he said.

Highlighting the emotional and economic toll of the disaster, the lawmaker noted that hundreds of buildings were destroyed, worsening the plight of already vulnerable residents.

“No one prepares for this kind of devastation. The trauma is real, and beyond rebuilding structures, we must also help restore hope,” he added.

He urged residents to take precautionary steps to minimise future risks, including proper building maintenance, improved drainage systems, and environmental safety practices.

“We must begin to take preventive measures seriously. Simple actions can significantly reduce the impact of disasters like this,” Fadeyi advised.

The senator also reaffirmed his commitment to pushing for stronger policies and interventions that protect lives and property across Osun State and beyond.

“As Chairman of the Senate Committee on Environment, I remain committed to advocating sustainable solutions that will safeguard our communities from recurring disasters,” he said.

Fadeyi further commended President Bola Tinubu’s plan to establish a Special Disaster Intervention Fund sourced from FAAC allocations, describing it as a timely and proactive step.

“The proposed Special Disaster Intervention Fund is a bold and necessary initiative. It shows that the government is thinking ahead and prioritising the safety of Nigerians,” he noted.

He assured constituents that efforts were ongoing to ensure that relief materials from NEMA reach thousands of affected individuals across Osun Central in the coming days.

“We will not stop at this donation. More support is on the way, and we will ensure that every affected person gets the help they need to rebuild their lives,” he pledged.
