Osun APC Group Alleges Basiru, Omisore Links to Adeleke Camp, Seeks Tinubu’s Intervention

Fresh cracks have emerged within the Osun State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC), as a pressure group raised alarm over alleged covert alignments involving the party’s National Secretary, Ajibola Basiru, and former deputy governor, Iyiola Omisore, calling on President Bola Tinubu to urgently intervene.

The group, Positive Force Movement of Osun APC, in a strongly worded statement, alleged that recent developments within the party suggest internal sabotage ahead of the forthcoming governorship election in the state. The group’s secretary, Hakeem Oyelade, claimed that ongoing rumours surrounding Basiru’s alleged sympathy for the incumbent governor, Ademola Adeleke, and the Accord Party candidate have further deepened mistrust within party ranks.

“There have been widespread allegations that the National Secretary is not fully aligned with the APC’s candidate and may be working behind the scenes to favour the incumbent,” Oyelade said. “The body language of the Secretary and particularly the support he gets from the Accord media shows there is more than meet the eyes.”

The group also pointed to circulating claims that Basiru may be backing a long-term political arrangement that would allow the current administration to retain power, with an understanding that political control could shift back to Osun Central in 2030. “There have been rumours that the National Secretary wants the incumbent to retain his seat while power can return to the Central Senatorial District in 2030, where he believes he will be the anointed and get a ‘pay back’ by the Adeleke group,” Oyelade alleged.

Further fuelling the controversy were recent images and narratives from the wedding ceremony of Omisore’s son, which the group claimed strengthened suspicions of a growing alliance between Omisore and the Adeleke political family. According to the group, “the wedding ceremony lent credence to the now smooth relationship between Otunba Omisore and the Adeleke family,” noting that prominent figures within the Adeleke camp and recently defected PDP lawmakers were in attendance.

The group also alleged that a meeting may have taken place involving Basiru, Omisore, and a key aide to Governor Adeleke. “We also gathered that there was meeting between the National Secretary, Iyiola Omisore and Akinleye, the Chief of Staff to Adeleke,” Oyelade claimed, adding that such interactions have intensified concerns about possible anti-party activities.

Describing the situation as a growing internal crisis, the group urged the President to step in and clarify the position of key party figures. “We urge Mr President to call on the National Secretary of our party to address the issue of his 2030 ambition once and for all,” the statement added.

While the allegations remain unverified, they have heightened tensions within the Osun APC, raising questions about unity and loyalty within the party as political calculations for future elections begin to take shape.
