Zamfara State Governor, Dauda Lawal, is scheduled to participate in the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York, where he is expected to engage global leaders, development partners and international organisations on opportunities to attract investment and strengthen development partnerships for the state.

The governor’s participation is expected to provide a platform for Zamfara to present its development priorities while exploring international collaboration in areas including security, economic growth, education, healthcare and sustainable development.

The 81st UN General Assembly is being held under the theme, “Restoring Trust, Managing Transformation: A United Nations That Delivers for All.”

Discussions at the gathering are expected to centre on a range of global priorities, including progress towards the Sustainable Development Goals, climate action, pandemic preparedness and response, racial justice and nuclear disarmament.

Governor Lawal’s programme in New York is scheduled to commence on September 18 with his participation in a High-Level Executive Global Roundtable Side Event and the SDG Moment.

A major engagement will follow on September 21, when the governor is expected to address a high-level side event organised by the United Nations Development Programme during the 81st UN General Assembly.

The UNDP event, themed “From Fragility to Opportunity: Locally Led Pathways to Peace, Resilience and Investment in Fragile Contexts,” will focus on strategies for transforming fragile environments through locally driven peace, resilience and investment initiatives.

The gathering will also feature the launch of the Northwest Peace, Security and Development Framework (2026–2030), with discussions expected to focus on building strategic partnerships and mobilising investments to support the framework’s implementation.

Lawal is also expected to participate in several other high-level engagements during his stay in New York.

These include the SDG Roundtable Discussion 2026, the Clinton Global Initiative Annual Meeting, and the African-Caribbean High-Level Interactive Dialogue: Redefining Influence, Accelerating Action.

Another key engagement on the governor’s itinerary is the Nigeria Investment Forum, which is expected to provide an opportunity for discussions around investment prospects and economic opportunities in Nigeria.

Through the various engagements, Zamfara is seeking to strengthen its international partnerships, highlight areas of investment potential and attract support for initiatives aimed at improving security, economic development and the wellbeing of residents.

The governor’s participation also reflects the state government’s efforts to connect Zamfara’s development agenda with international institutions, investors and partners ahead of the implementation of broader peace, security and development initiatives across the state and the Northwest.
