Jide Kosoko explains why Ogogo cannot be moved for alternative treatment

Veteran Nollywood actor Jide Kosoko has appealed to the public to continue praying for ailing actor Taiwo Hassan, popularly known as Ogogo, while explaining why the family has been unable to respond to numerous offers of spiritual and alternative medical treatment.

Kosoko, in a statement shared on his Instagram page on Wednesday, thanked fans, colleagues and well-wishers for the remarkable concern and support shown to the actor and his family.

He disclosed that hundreds of people had reached out with suggestions and offers of treatment, but moving Ogogo from his current hospital has become a major challenge because of his condition.

“We have received offers from more than 300, and even over 500 people, each sincerely believing that they have something that could help him,” Kosoko stated.

“The challenge is simply: Where do we take him to? And how do we move him from the hospital while he is receiving care?”

The veteran actor specifically appealed to those who had offered traditional, spiritual or specialised treatment to understand the family’s predicament and not interpret their inability to accept the offers as a rejection of their goodwill.

“Please, do not feel offended or disappointed if we are unable to bring Ogogo to you for spiritual assistance or treatment. It is extremely difficult to move him from the hospital to different locations at this stage of his treatment, especially considering the large number of people who have offered to help,” he said.

Kosoko stressed that the family’s decision to keep Ogogo in hospital care should not be mistaken for a lack of appreciation for those seeking to help.

“Please understand that our inability to bring him to anyone does not mean that we do not appreciate you, nor does it mean that we doubt your intentions or your desire to help,” he added.

“On the contrary, we are deeply touched by the overwhelming love and concern that people across the world have shown towards him.

“Therefore, we encourage you to continue doing whatever you can from your respective locations and comfort zones. Keep praying. Keep supporting us. Keep believing with us.”

The appeal comes amid heightened public concern over Ogogo’s health after his daughters, Shakira and Haleemah Hassan, shared an emotional video revealing that their father was battling stage-four cancer.

Their disclosure sparked widespread reactions across the entertainment industry and social media, with colleagues and other well-wishers rallying around the actor and his family.

Nollywood figures, including Femi Adebayo and Toyin Abraham, have also been involved in efforts to mobilise support for the veteran actor.

Amid the growing public interest, medical advice has also focused on the need for appropriate specialist care and palliative management in advanced cancer cases, with warnings against unverified remedies that could potentially complicate treatment.

Kosoko’s latest message therefore sought to clarify the family’s position: Ogogo remains under hospital care, while the family continues to welcome prayers, goodwill and support from Nigerians and his admirers around the world.
