Helicopter Crashes in Ondo Creek, Occupants Feared Dead
A helicopter has crashed in the Igbokoda area of Ilaje Local Government Area of Ondo State, with the occupants feared dead.
The incident occurred on Monday, October 5, 2026, in a swampy area within the creek around Igbokoda, making access to the crash site difficult.
A source familiar with the incident said residents heard a loud sound from the area but were unable to reach the location because of the terrain.
“It happened this morning. We heard a very loud sound in the area where the incident occurred, but we could not get there because the place is a swampy area inside the creek; we are just looking at it from afar.
“But the police and the military people later came around there for rescue, but the occupants of the helicopter might have died there.”
Police and military personnel were subsequently said to have arrived at the area as rescue efforts got underway.
The exact number of casualties remained unclear as of the time of filing this report.
However, the source said the occupants of the aircraft were believed to have been among those affected by the crash.
Confirming the incident, the Police Public Relations Officer in Ondo State, DSP Abayomi Jimoh, said investigations had commenced to determine what happened.
“The Ondo State Police Command confirms the reported aircraft crash in the Igbokoda axis of Ilaje Local Government Area of Ondo State on Monday, 5th October 2026. Details surrounding the incident are still emerging, as efforts to establish the full circumstances continue.”
Jimoh appealed to residents and members of the public to remain calm while authorities work to establish the facts surrounding the crash.
He also warned against spreading information that had not been verified by the relevant authorities.
“The public will be duly informed as soon as further credible information becomes available,” he stated.
