Gov Lawal Receives ZIK Pan-African Leadership Award in Ghana

Zamfara State Governor, Dauda Lawal, has been honoured with the ZIK International Peace and Leadership Award in recognition of his administration’s performance in public sector leadership and economic reforms.

Lawal received the award at the 7th ZIK International Peace and Leadership Award ceremony held on Friday at the British Council in Accra, Ghana.

The event also featured a lecture titled, “Leadership, Peace, and Regional Integration: Advancing Africa’s Development in a Changing Global Order.”

The organisers said the award reflected their assessment of the governor’s efforts to reposition Zamfara through reforms and development initiatives since assuming office.

Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the ZIK Pan-African Award, His Royal Highness Professor Echefuna R.G. Onyeabadi, said the award was created to honour individuals whose leadership and service have made meaningful contributions to their people and society.

Accepting the honour, Lawal dedicated the recognition to the people of Zamfara State, describing it as an encouragement for his administration to intensify its development efforts.

“This award is dedicated to all the people of Zamfara State. My administration has been working tirelessly to ensure the state can compete with any other in Nigeria. That was our promise and we have surpassed expectations in just three years,” Lawal said.

The governor used the occasion to highlight some of the projects and reforms undertaken by his administration, particularly in infrastructure, security, education, healthcare and civil service reform.

He pointed to the ongoing transformation of the state’s urban centres and the construction of a modern airport as notable milestones.

According to him, the airport project is particularly significant because Zamfara had not witnessed such major aviation infrastructure development in more than three decades since the state was created.

Lawal also listed reforms in the security sector and other areas of governance as part of his administration’s efforts to improve living conditions and strengthen the state’s institutional capacity.

“We have made great strides in security, civil service reform, education, health and other sectors,” the governor added.

He expressed appreciation to the organisers for the recognition, saying the honour would further strengthen his resolve to deliver on his administration’s development agenda.

“It means a lot to me and will motivate me to do even more for my people. Zamfara is on the rise,” he said.
