Gov Lawal Honoured as North-West’s Outstanding Governor at Daily Times Centenary Awards

Governor Dauda Lawal of Zamfara State has received the Outstanding Governor Award for the North-West at the Daily Times Nigeria centenary celebration in Abuja.

The Zamfara governor was honoured at the DTN@100 Times Heroes Awards, organised as part of activities marking the 100th anniversary of the Daily Times, one of Nigeria’s oldest newspapers.

Lawal was recognised for his leadership, public service and contributions to national development, with the organisers saying his emergence followed an extensive nomination and public voting process.

The Chairman of the DTN@100 Heroes Awards Council, Bolaji Okusaga, explained that the Zamfara State governor emerged as the leading nominee in the North-West category before his selection was subsequently confirmed by the award council and other stakeholders.

“Following an extensive nomination and public voting process, you received the highest number of votes in this award category.

“The Times Heroes Award Council and other key stakeholders subsequently confirmed your selection in recognition of your leadership, public service, and contribution to national development,” Mr. Okusaga said.

The award formed part of the elaborate celebration of the Daily Times’ centenary, commemorating 100 years of the newspaper’s role in chronicling Nigeria’s political, economic, social and cultural evolution.

The newspaper, first published in 1926, has remained a significant part of Nigeria’s media history, documenting major events and personalities that have shaped the country’s development over the past century.

Governor Lawal, while receiving the honour, expressed appreciation to the Board, Management and Organising Committee of the Daily Times Nigeria @100 Celebration, the Times Heroes Award Council and Nigerians who supported his nomination.

He said the recognition reflected his administration’s commitment to good governance and effective public service in Zamfara State.

Other prominent Nigerians honoured at the DTN@100 Times Heroes Awards included the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Senator George Akume, and former President of the African Development Bank, Dr Akinwumi Adesina.

As part of the centenary celebration, the organisers also announced that recipients of the Times Heroes Awards would be profiled among Nigeria’s outstanding personalities and institutions in a special 700-page publication titled the Nigerian Grand Book.

“This publication will serve as a national commemorative volume and a lasting record of the people, institutions, and achievements shaping Nigeria’s development.”

The organisers said the publication would preserve the stories and achievements of individuals and institutions considered to have made significant contributions to Nigeria’s growth and development.

The foreword to the Nigerian Grand Book, according to the organisers, was written by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

Governor Lawal’s latest recognition adds to the list of honours received by the Zamfara State governor as his administration continues to pursue its development agenda across the state.
