Gov Lawal Flags Off 94km Tsafe Road Network to Boost Agriculture and Security in Zamfara
In a major step toward infrastructural renewal and economic revitalization, the Executive Governor of Zamfara State, His Excellency Dr. Dauda Lawal, officially flagged off the construction of the Yandonton Daji–Cediya–Doka–Yan Waren Daji–Hayin Alhaji Bedi–Unguwar Joji–Yan Kuzo–Tsafe Road on Sunday, October 4, 2026.
The comprehensive 94-kilometre road project, which includes five bridges, traverses vital agricultural corridors in Tsafe Local Government Area. The contract has been awarded to Sky Construction Company and Setraco Construction Company Limited, with a strict 12-month completion timeline.
Speaking at the ceremony in Tsafe Town, Governor Lawal emphasized that the road network is designed to link rural farmlands directly to main urban expressways and markets.
“Our administration is big on ensuring that farmers get their produce to the end users. When the road connecting the farm is good, it reduces stress and also ensures more mechanised farming, because the heavy-duty equipment we have procured can easily reach the farm,” Governor Lawal stated. “This will ease the lives of our people, who are predominantly farmers, and it will also connect them to the ease of doing business.”
Corroborating the Governor’s vision, the Commissioner for Works, Hon. Lawal Barau Bungundu, highlighted that the project aligns with the administration’s core mission of rebuilding Zamfara State and delivering the dividends of democracy. He noted that opening up these transport corridors will dramatically enhance agricultural output and boost the local economy.
Beyond economic empowerment, Governor Lawal framed the infrastructure drive as a key tactical intervention to address the state’s persistent security challenges.
“The reconstruction of this road will not only facilitate the movement of goods and services, but also enhance the mobility and operational capacity of our security agencies. With a better road network, we can improve our surveillance and intelligence gathering, as well as respond more effectively to any threats or attacks,” the Governor explained.
He further added that the Tsafe project forms part of a broader, state-wide infrastructure overhaul aimed at clearing years of accumulated deficits. Other ongoing strategic corridors in the state’s master plan include the Gusau–Magami–Dansadau Road, the Zurmi–Rukudawa Road, and the Mallamawa–Bukkuyum Road (with a spur to Masamar Mudi).
Governor Lawal reassured residents that his administration remains committed to working around the clock, with additional inner-city and local government road projects set to be flagged off across the state in the coming months.
