Fleeing Native Doctor Wanted for Ritual Killings Nabbed at Border, Handed Over to Lagos Police

A notorious native doctor from Enugu State, Obi Levi Obieze, who had been declared wanted in connection with kidnapping and ritual killings, has been apprehended by the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) while attempting to flee the country. The suspect was handed over to the Lagos State Police Command on Thursday.

Obieze, also known by the aliases Obu Onyeka, Ezeani, and E-Dey-Play-E-Dey-Show, was arrested on Wednesday at the Gbaji checkpoint along the Badagry-Seme Expressway. According to officials, he was trying to cross into Benin Republic on a commercial Bajaj motorcycle when border patrol agents identified and intercepted him.

“The commercial motorcyclist had passed the immigration checkpoint at Gbaji when an officer, recognizing the suspect, ordered the rider to stop.
Obieze attempted to flee, but officers quickly apprehended him and took him to the command office.
He was detained in the NIS cell while the Controller of the Lagos State Border Patrol Command contacted NIS headquarters regarding the arrest,” a source familiar with the case revealed.

Obieze was transported to Lagos under heavy security and officially handed over to the Commissioner of Police, CP Olohundare Jimoh, at the State Command headquarters. He arrived restrained with both hand and leg cuffs and wore a face mask. Journalists invited to witness the handover were not allowed to question the suspect.

NIS officials disclosed that Obieze had evaded arrest in Enugu earlier this month and traveled overnight to Lagos. “He boarded a night bus to Mile 2 and arrived around 10:00 a.m.,” the source added.

Police investigations linked Obieze, a resident of Umuojor village in Isiagu community, Ezeagu Local Government Area of Enugu State, to the abduction of a 13-year-old girl who was rescued from a shrine allegedly associated with him. Authorities say the girl was kidnapped while walking to the farm with her father by three men, who are now in custody.

In a separate breakthrough, the Enugu State Police Command confirmed the arrest of three suspects—Uche Kingsley Agumba (33), Ilo Nweze Onyedikachi (36), and Ejike Odinwankpa (38)—in connection with the abduction. During a search of Obieze’s residence, police also uncovered two decomposing bodies sealed in a concrete-lined pit.

“Obviously, this is a significant arrest in an ongoing investigation into ritual killings and kidnapping operations linked to this suspect,” said a police source.

The Lagos State Police Command is now leading the investigation, with the suspect expected to face charges following further interrogations and forensic examinations.
