FG announces Thursday, Friday as public holiday for Eid-el-Fitr celebration

The Federal Government has officially designated Thursday, March 19, and Friday, March 20, 2026, as public holidays in observance of Eid-el-Fitr, marking the conclusion of the Ramadan fast.

This announcement was made by the Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, representing the Federal Government.

According to a statement issued on Tuesday by the ministry’s Permanent Secretary, Magdalene Ajani, the minister conveyed warm wishes and congratulations to Muslims across the country for successfully completing the Ramadan fast.

Tunji-Ojo urged the Muslim community to continue upholding the values of love, generosity, peace, tolerance, and sacrifice cultivated during Ramadan.

He also encouraged Nigerians to take advantage of the festive period to offer prayers for the nation’s peace, unity, and continued growth.

Extending his best wishes for a joyful Eid celebration, the minister advised citizens to mark the occasion responsibly and show compassion by supporting the less privileged.

The statement added, “The Federal Government remains committed to fostering national unity and peaceful coexistence among all Nigerians.”
