Euromoney Names Wema Bank Nigeria’s Top Consumer Digital Bank for 2026
Wema Bank has clinched the Nigeria’s Best Digital Bank for Consumers 2026 title at the prestigious Euromoney Awards for Excellence, earning international recognition for its sustained investments in digital banking, customer-focused innovation and financial inclusion.
The award, presented by Euromoney, one of the world’s leading financial services publications, acknowledges banks that have distinguished themselves through technological innovation, exceptional customer service and measurable impact in transforming banking services.
The recognition highlights Wema Bank’s continued evolution as one of Nigeria’s foremost technology-driven financial institutions, driven largely by the success of ALAT, Africa’s first fully digital bank, and the lender’s ongoing efforts to make banking more accessible, seamless and convenient for millions of customers.
Reacting to the honour, the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Wema Bank, Moruf Oseni, described the award as a reflection of the bank’s long-term commitment to building a digital-first financial institution that prioritises customer needs.
“This award is a strong validation of the deliberate investments we have made over the years to build a truly digital bank that puts customers at the centre of everything we do. Innovation for us has never been about technology for its own sake. It has always been about creating solutions that make banking easier, faster, safer and more rewarding for every customer,” Oseni said.
He noted that the bank’s digital transformation journey has remained focused on anticipating customer expectations while introducing products and services that improve financial access and convenience.
“From pioneering Africa’s first fully digital bank with ALAT to continuously evolving our digital capabilities, we have remained focused on anticipating customer needs and building experiences that create real value. We are honoured by this recognition from Euromoney and inspired to continue pushing the boundaries of innovation as we shape the future of banking in Nigeria,” he added.
According to the bank, ALAT has continued to evolve with a suite of advanced digital features designed to improve users’ banking experience. These include voice-enabled banking, tap-to-pay technology, personalised financial solutions and integrated investment opportunities developed through strategic partnerships.
The bank also pointed to improvements in digital account opening, artificial intelligence-powered fraud detection, intelligent customer personalisation and the expansion of its agency banking network as key initiatives that have strengthened financial inclusion and extended banking services to underserved communities.
Euromoney further recognised Wema Bank’s use of data analytics and technology to deepen customer engagement by offering personalised recommendations across savings, credit and investment products based on customers’ financial behaviour and individual needs.
Founded more than 80 years ago, Wema Bank has built a reputation as Nigeria’s oldest indigenous bank while maintaining a strong focus on innovation. Through ALAT and other digital platforms, the lender has continued to redefine banking by combining technology with customer insight to deliver secure, efficient and inclusive financial services.
The latest Euromoney accolade further underscores Wema Bank’s ambition to remain at the forefront of digital banking, reinforcing its commitment to operational excellence, innovation and customer-centric solutions that deliver lasting value.
