ALAT: The Evolution — Wema Bank Set to Unveil Major AI-Driven Upgrade This Month

Wema Bank has announced a significant leap in its digital journey with the upcoming launch of an upgraded version of its flagship platform, scheduled to go live in January 2026. Dubbed ALAT: The Evolution, the new iteration aims to redefine the standards of the next chapter in the financial services industry.
Originally making history in 2017 as Africa’s first fully digital bank, ALAT disrupted traditional banking by offering a completely branchless experience. Now, nearly a decade later, the bank is preparing to “push the envelope even further” by integrating advanced technology and more sophisticated user interfaces.
A Smarter, More Personal Experience
The bank describes the upgrade as a comprehensive overhaul rather than a simple update. “It represents a thoughtful evolution of everything users already love about ALAT; redesigned to feel more intuitive, more responsive, and more personal,” the bank stated.
The highlight of the new platform is the introduction of SAW (Smart ALAT by Wema), a dedicated AI assistant built directly into the app. This feature is designed to move the app beyond simple transactions toward a more predictive banking experience.
Intentional Innovation
The upcoming release focuses on three core pillars:
- Speed: Drastically faster interaction times for users.
- Intelligence: A smarter understanding of individual user behavior to provide tailored financial insights.
- The SAW AI Assistant: Bringing conversational banking to the forefront of the user journey.
According to Wema Bank, the project is a testament to the growth of the Nigerian fintech landscape: “The upgraded ALAT will show how far digital banking has come, and how much further it can go when innovation is intentional.”
By launching this upgrade, “Wema Bank is again reaffirming its position as the most innovative Bank in the banking industry,”** ensuring its pioneer status remains intact as it competes in an increasingly crowded digital market.
