“A Profound Loss” — Governor Dauda Lawal Mourns Transition of Sarkin Zamfaran Zurmi
The traditional institution in Zamfara State has been thrown into mourning following the transition of His Royal Highness, Alhaji Bello Sulaiman, the Sarkin Zamfaran Zurmi. The respected monarch passed away on Monday at the Federal Medical Centre in Gusau, bringing a dignified and dedicated reign in the Zurmi Emirate to a close. His passing has resonated deeply throughout the state, with citizens and leaders mourning what many describe as a monumental loss.
Reacting to the sad news, Executive Governor Dauda Lawal, PhD, expressed deep sorrow over the monarch’s departure, describing it as a “profound loss” that affects all of Zamfara. The Governor commended the late traditional ruler for a lifetime defined by selfless service, sagacity, and a firm commitment to the tranquility and growth of his domain.
“His Royal Highness was a pillar of the traditional institution whose counsel and leadership were invaluable to the development of our dear state,” the Governor said. He further emphasized that the monarch’s lasting impact on peacebuilding and grassroots development would remain indelible in the state’s history, pointing to his consistent efforts toward fostering unity and peaceful coexistence across diverse communities.
Throughout his time on the throne, Alhaji Bello Sulaiman remained a steadfast custodian of cultural heritage and traditional values. Governor Lawal also appealed to the public and the people of the emirate to observe this period of grief peacefully, urging them to uphold the late ruler’s vision through sustained unity and progress. The Zurmi Emirate Council is expected to announce the official funeral and burial details shortly, in line with Islamic traditions.
