The Gombe State Police Command has recorded two security breakthroughs with the recovery of a Beretta pistol and a stolen Toyota Camry during separate operations conducted across the state over the past 48 hours.

The command’s Public Relations Officer, Buhari Abdullahi, announced the recoveries in a statement issued on Saturday, describing them as part of ongoing efforts to strengthen public safety and combat crime.

According to the statement, the first operation followed a report from a vigilant resident who discovered a Beretta pistol hidden beneath a stone close to Brave Rock Sport/Recreational Park in the New GRA area of Gombe.

Police detectives were immediately dispatched to the location after receiving the alert.

“The firearm was promptly reported to the police, and detectives immediately responded to the scene, where the Beretta pistol with an empty magazine was recovered. Investigation is ongoing to determine the ownership of the weapon and the circumstances surrounding its concealment,” the PPRO said.

In another operation, police operatives successfully recovered a stolen 2010 Toyota Camry after launching a coordinated response involving the Police Control Room and officers attached to the Dukku Division.

Abdullahi explained that the suspect abandoned the vehicle while attempting to escape after security operatives closed in on him.

During a search of the recovered car, officers also found a bunch of fabricated master keys along with other items considered suspicious.

“During the operation, the suspect fled the scene, abandoning the stolen Toyota Camry. A bunch of fabricated master keys and other suspicious items were recovered from the vehicle. Efforts are ongoing to apprehend the fleeing suspect and conclude the investigation,” he stated.

The police spokesperson praised members of the public for remaining alert and working closely with security agencies, noting that timely information from residents continues to play a vital role in crime prevention and detection.

He urged citizens to sustain their cooperation by promptly reporting suspicious activities, assuring them that the command remains committed to protecting lives and property while intensifying efforts to apprehend criminal elements operating within the state.
