PDP Crisis: Anyanwu Resumes as National Secretary Amid Controversy

Senator Samuel Anyanwu resumed duties as the National Secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) on Monday, amidst an ongoing legal tussle over the position.
Anyanwu arrived at the PDP National Secretariat at 10:56 a.m., heading directly to his office, where he was welcomed by his personal staff. Speaking to reporters from his desk, he addressed the contentious situation surrounding his position.
Response to Appeal Court Judgment
The controversy follows a recent statement by the PDP National Publicity Secretary, Debo Ologunagba, acknowledging an Appeal Court judgment that recognized Sunday Okoye as the National Secretary.
Reacting to Ologunagba’s remarks, Anyanwu dismissed the statement, asserting that it did not represent the party’s official position.
“That is his opinion. It’s not the opinion of the party,” Anyanwu said.
He added, “As National Publicity Secretary of the party, I wouldn’t want to disparage him. Maybe he didn’t get the facts correctly. I have appealed.”
Ongoing Legal Battle
The dispute over the National Secretary position has heightened tensions within the PDP, with the Appeal Court ruling creating further uncertainty. Anyanwu’s decision to appeal the judgment suggests that the matter is far from resolved, leaving party stakeholders to await clarity on the leadership issue.
As the situation unfolds, Anyanwu’s resumption of office signals his determination to maintain his position while the party navigates the crisis.
